Introducing the new PayPal app.

Challenge
As PayPal embarked on a large-scale rebrand—including a redesign of the app—our team was tasked with reimagining the entry flow. The primary objective was to drive enrollment in the newly launched PayPal+ Rewards program and promote adoption of the PayPal Debit Card.

Solution
Working closely with PayPal and our internal brand team, we created polished solutions in the midst of rapid feedback cycles and evolving marketing messaging. The final output was a full entry flow consisting of a high-caliber experience, and a visual compelling design language.

Onboarding flow

We began by assessing the onboarding flow, concentrating on three main initiatives: redesigning the app introduction screens, integrating new PayPal Rewards, Debit Card, and notification opt-in experiences, and executing an overall revamp of the full onboarding journey.

The insights and design outputs from this work informed several downstream experiences, including the re-boarding flow for returning users, our CRM messaging, and the app homepage design, ensuring a cohesive and consistent experience across all key touchpoints.

The Brand

PayPal was in the midst of a large-scale rebrand. They tapped Pentagram to create the initial brand book. R/GA’s brand team then took the reins to create an all-encompassing strategic vision for how the brand would come to life in the digital space, where people interacted with it the most. At the same time, a strategy was forming for a new offering, PayPal+ Rewards, which was our main focus. Our PayPal and internal teams worked together to ensure the evolving brand language, messaging, and user experience was in lockstep .

Multiple concepts were created alongside a rapidly evolving brand language and shifting product messaging. These concepts were quickly prototyped and presented in a fluid and collaborative structure, allowing the combined team to reach the best solution.
